Hollywood Fringe Festival Returns With a Creative Surge

Known as the city’s largest performing arts event, Fringe features nearly 2,000 performances across a variety of genres including drama, musical theatre, cabaret, comedy, and immersive solo shows. The festival is as much about community as it is creativity, bringing together artists and audiences in intimate venues and pop-up spaces throughout Hollywood. For those who can’t attend in person, select shows are available via livestream.
Broadway Prestige: Parade at Ahmanson Theatre
From June 17 through July 12, the Tony Award-winning musical Parade graces the stage of the Ahmanson Theatre. With music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, this powerful show tells the haunting true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish factory manager wrongly accused of murder in 1913 Georgia. Rich in historical context and emotional depth, Parade blends justice, love, and tragedy with a stirring score and riveting performances.
Shakespeare Reimagined: Hamlet at Mark Taper Forum
The timeless tragedy of Hamlet takes on fresh relevance at the Mark Taper Forum from June 17 to 22. This contemporary production reexamines the classic tale of revenge and madness through a modern lens, shedding light on themes of identity, corruption, and family power struggles. The reimagined staging makes it both accessible for first-timers and compelling for seasoned Shakespeare enthusiasts.
Intimate Drama: The Reservoir at Geffen Playhouse
From June 18 to July 20, the Geffen Playhouse hosts The Reservoir, a gripping new drama exploring memory, grief, and emotional healing. This original work navigates the fragile intersection between trauma and truth as its central character returns to a childhood lake house. Set against a hauntingly quiet backdrop, The Reservoir is a stirring meditation on what we remember—and what we choose to forget.
Bold New Voices: A Rose Called Candace at The Robey
Running June 21 to 29, A Rose Called Candace brings a deeply personal story to life at The Robey Theatre Company. The play centers on a Black woman’s journey through resilience, spirituality, and self-discovery in the face of generational trauma. Theatre in Nature: Strife at Theatricum Botanicum
Nestled in the woodlands of Topanga Canyon, the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum presents Strife from June 21 through October 4. This politically charged play, originally written by John Galsworthy, examines class conflict during a British labor strike. Performed in an open-air amphitheater, the production gains a powerful immediacy from its natural surroundings and social relevance.
