One of Australia's premiere performing arts centres, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) has launched access to the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet for the inbound Asian travel market whilst attending the 2019 Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) in Perth.
The Brisbane based Centre, located within the city's prized cultural centre near the Brisbane River, South Bank, is offering tickets and VIP packages to the Bolshoi Ballet, via key inbound and online travel agents to attract more visitors to Queensland for the 2019 QPAC International Series event.
The package includes tickets to experience the Australian exclusive season by one of the world's best ballet companies, Russia's mighty Bolshoi Ballet, within QPAC's 2019 International Series.
The world renowned company will perform two ballets in QPAC's 2000 seat Lyric Theatre from 26 June to 7 July 2019, following the Bolshoi's sold out debut, and nationally exclusive, visit to QPAC in 2013.
The ballets, Spartacus and triple bill Jewels will be presented over 13 performances with the season offering the rare opportunity for audiences to see both ballet productions on the first weekend of the season (Friday 29 June and Saturday 30 June).
QPAC's Chief Executive John Kotzas said the highly recognised and acclaimed Bolshoi Ballet was a perfect event to enter the market with.
“We understand that Asian visitors, in particular from China, possess a growing desire for arts and cultural consumption and are increasingly seeking opportunities to engage in quality experiences with local people during their international travel,” said Mr Kotzas.
“QPAC is one of the biggest and busiest Arts Centres in Australia. In the last financial year, we had a record attendance of over 1.5 million and presented over 1300 performances across our four theatres.
“The Centre is internationally recognised for presenting the best quality and diverse range of international and Australian live performance. Through our QPAC International Series, we have proudly brought the world's best performance companies exclusively to Queensland for the past decade, including the Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet and Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company, providing a strong drawcard for domestic and international tourism.
“We invite our Asian visitors, while in Brisbane and Queensland, to visit QPAC for a rare opportunity to experience one of the world's greatest ballet companies, the Bolshoi Ballet. With over 100 dancers, including their highest calibre Principals, this acclaimed company will present two magnificent ballets, which showcase the strength and artistry for which it is renowned.
“At the Russian company's home in Moscow, seasons of Spartacus and Jewels are booked out months in advance; and we expect to see the same for this Company's exclusive return to Queensland.
“Whether their trip be for business, holiday or to visit friends or relatives here in Brisbane, a performance by the Bolshoi Ballet should definitely be on their list. We recommend bookings are made promptly to avoid disappointment,” said Mr Kotzas.
Since 2009 the QPAC International Series has seen exclusive presentations by some of the world's finest performance companies. It has delivered $25.5 million for the Queensland economy and contributed to Queensland's reputation as a leading vibrant cultural destination.
Tourism Research Australia figures for the year ended December 2018 show that China remains Queensland's largest international market, with 502,000 visitors spending more than 1.4 billion in Queensland in 2018.
Travellers from China are high value travellers who come to Australia to enjoy the diverse natural beauty, quality food and wine and also varied cultural experiences, including theatre and dance performances.
QPAC's dedicated strategy is designed to market this exclusive season by one of the oldest and most highly regarded ballet companies in the world to Asian visitors who increasingly are demonstrating an appetite to experience rich and quality cultural and arts experiences while travelling overseas.
It is also an ideal time of the year for Asian visitors to escape their cold winters and enjoy Queensland's mild temperatures while taking in all that Brisbane and Queensland has to offer.
QPAC's Lyric Theatre will host two renowned ballets from The Bolshoi's repertoire, which are masterpieces of outstanding choreographers of the 20th century - Spartacus by Yuri Grigorovich and Jewels by George Balanchine.
Spartacus is a heroic ballet with exciting characters, powerful passions, and dynamic action. Jewels is the neoclassic which showcases the talents of the young generation of the Bolshoi Ballet dancers.
The QPAC International Series is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It's Live! In Queensland events calendar, worth $800 million to the state's economy in 2019.
QPAC currently has a representative at ATE in Perth, located on the Brisbane Marketing stand from 9 to 12 April 2019.
