Big red cat seen prowling around Brisbane at sunset

A large cat seen prowling around Brisbane on Friday night caused quite a stir!

Award-winning Whitsunday tour operators, Red Cat Adventures, launched their newest Thundercat catamaran, on Friday (May 10), to a clutch of lucky booking agents.

They were treated to drinks and nibbles as the 14-metre, super sleek custom-built vessel glided effortless with a low growl along the Brisbane River as the sun set.

Julie Telford, co-owner of Red Cat Adventures, which won Gold in the Major Tour and Transport Operators category at the 2018 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, said it was a fitting way to welcome the newest boat to the Red Cat Adventures fleet, which now boasts four vessels.

Thundercat III joins siblings I and II and there is also a sailing catamaran under the Red Cat brand.

“We have built a new, world-first Thundercat catamaran, which will be hitting the Whitsunday waters in mid-May,” Mrs Telford said.

“She is bigger, better and faster, and represents the evolution of the Thundercat brand, with an even smoother ride.

“We wanted to celebrate her first voyage with our amazing Brisbane agents and supporters, with a fun, Friday night sunset river cruise - and we think we hit the mark, judging from the feedback we received. It was a fantastic night and we would like to thank everyone who came along to celebrate this big moment in our company’s history.”

Established in 2011, Red Cat Adventures is a husband-and-wife business that has grown to over 20 employees. They have gone from one boat to four, and also operate a mainland resort in the Whitsundays, Paradise Cove.

They have won many awards along the way including four gold wins at the 2018 Whitsunday Tourism Awards, two at the 2018 Queensland Tourism Awards and a finalist position in the Queensland Telstra Business Awards.

Red Cat Adventures’ latest award saw them named the 'Most Innovative Charter Boat Company - Queensland' in the 2019 APAC Insider Australian Enterprise Awards, which recognise businesses who are making a valuable contribution to the depth of the nation's economy, and they have just been awarded the Climate Action Innovator Certificate, in May 2019.
