With just under a month to go until the lights switch on, Vivid Sydney will welcome families from around Australia and overseas, who will join locals in an ‘after dark’ winter wonderland of interactive light installations, illuminated skyscrapers and large scale projections including the world famous Lighting of the Sails on the Sydney Opera House.
From 6pm until midnight each night, people of all ages can wander along the iconic harbour foreshore, taking in the Vivid Sydney Light Walk from Fort Denison, through Circular Quay, The Rocks and Walsh Bay. With Darling Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge interactive light feature at North Sydney, there’s something for everyone - front and centre of Sydney’s famous harbour.
Easy to get around, the Vivid Sydney Light Walk is dotted with entertaining installations including a floating garden bed made entirely of fibre optic grass, a mirror that bends and ripples its reflection, and a simulation of hundreds of moths drawn to the streetlights.
Highlights of the Vivid Sydney Light Walk – Fun for all the Family!
- Move your building - an Australian first that adults and children alike will love, this is a fun and interactive projection on Customs House where the audience can choose the music and the graphics they want to see on the building. As they move on a specially designed outdoor dance floor, their movements will be reflected in the projections.
- The Sydney Harbour Bridge - Colour The Bridge - a centrepiece of an interactive light installation, designed by 32 Hundred Lighting in collaboration with Vivid Sydney 2013 partner Intel Australia. The bridge will become a blank canvas the public can decorate from a touchscreen on the Luna Park Boardwalk, ideal for kids to get creative and create their own Sydney Harbour Bridge light installation!
- Vivid Aquatique - Vivid Light will extend to Darling Harbour this year with a stunning water and light show, never seen before in Australia. Each night families and festival goers will be treated to a free spectacular water theatre show. Featuring dancing coloured water fountains, water screen projections, dazzling light, laser and water shows, it’s an extravaganza sure to entertain the whole family.
- Vivid Night Markets at The Rocks - every Friday and Saturday night during Vivid
- Artisan and food market at Bradfield Park in North Sydney and a great spot to view the lighting of the sails on the Sydney Opera House - every Friday and Saturday from 6pm
