12th annual Kauai Polynesian Festival in Hawaii to kick off on May 24

The 12th annual Kauai Polynesian Festival in Hawaii will kick off on May 24 at Vidinha Stadium soccer field on Kapule Highway (Lihue) from noon through the evening for each of the three days. Join the event for Tahitian, Maori, Samoan and Hawaiian entertainment, “Polynesian Experience” (hands-on arts and crafts activity), Polynesian Farmer’s Market, solo and group dance  competitions, Hawaiian games, food booths, workshops, and more.

Celebrate a “POLYNESIAN EXPERIENCE,” a hands-on cultural crafts & dance activity. Learn weaving techniques using the fronds of the coconut and hala tree, learn to husk a coconut, fire making and spear throwing, finally let the pros teach you how to dance the hula, make a ti-leaf lei and tie a pareau (sarong), Polynesian style. The festival will feature island halau hula (schools of dance) who will share their talents in a selection of Traditional and Modern Polynesian dance presentations.

The event is being organized by the Kamanawa Foundation.
