Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel |
The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel is located in an impressive sandstone building built way back in 1856 as the home of the Sydney Morning Herald. It then became the Bank of NSW in 1956, and in 2000 was transformed into the Radisson. The heritage sandstone façade was retained, an additional 3 floors added and the interior was completely redeveloped. Some of the important architectural features were retained. The original offices of Sir Warwick and Sir James Fairfax on the Mezzanine level were restored and are now beautiful meeting rooms.
Reception lobby |
An impressive $13.5 million dollar renovation of the public spaces and 362 guest rooms and suites has just been completed. The hallways and guest rooms are decorated with large prints of historical photos of the building in bygone years.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel recently. The hotel reception area is functional and welcoming. Checkin went smoothly with the welcoming and friendly staff. They made me feel right at home on this my first stay at the hotel.
King Premier room |
I was fortunate to be upgraded to a well appointed King Premier room on the 6th floor. The room was very spacious, with a high ceiling and a large bay window allowing plenty of natural light during the day. The window was double glazed to block out noise, and the stylish blackout curtains made the room dark at night for a restful night's sleep. Its decor was modern and stylish, and the guest room very clean and tidy.
The king bed was very comfy with good quality linen and an abundance of pillows. There was even a Pillow Menu for a wider choice of pillows if I so desired.

My room had a flat screen tv with a large number of free to air and satellite stations to chose from, an iPhone docking station, and work desk and chair. There was a well-stocked minibar and tea and coffee provisions - plus the bonus of some Tim Tams to eat! It was good to be connected to the outside world with the free high speed wireless internet that was provided in the room. A couch by the window and coffee table with a supply of travel magazines made for pleasurable reading.
The sparkling white marble bathroom had a bath and separate shower, vanity and toilet. A shuttered window between the bedroom and bathroom allowed natural light to flood in. Fluffy bath towels, bathrobes and a range of nice toiletries were provided.
A 15-metre indoor pool, spa and steam room are located on the mezzanine floor. I enjoyed using each of these, especially the heated pool that was one metre deep, for a few gentle swimming laps. Skylights provided an upwards view of the blue sky between the two wings of the hotel. The change rooms were neat and tidy and were equipped with individual lockers. A functional gym and Day Spa offering a range of massage services are located near the pool.

A delicious buffet breakfast of hot and cold dishes is provided each morning in the The Lady Fairfax Room. The menu items change each day to give variety. The Bentley Restaurant and Bar, located in the front corner of the hotel, is a leading restaurant offering high quality food and an extensive selection of drinks.
A number of rooms of various sizes are available for meetings, seminars, presentations and conferences. Catering is also available.
