The Australian premiere of Disney’s Aladdin opened to critical acclaim on Thursday night, delighting a full house at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre.
Adapted from the Disney film and folktales including One Thousand and One Nights, Aladdin is brought to theatrical life in this bold new musical. The performance sweeps audiences into an exotic world of daring adventure, classic comedy and timeless romance.
NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres welcomed the showcase to Sydney and said it would be a major drawcard for visitors to the State.
“Disney’s Aladdin will be one of the grandest productions ever staged in Sydney. More than 120,000 visitors are expected to travel to the harbour city to see this spectacular show, generating around $39 million in visitor expenditure,” Mr Ayres said.
“The NSW Government’s investment in Disney’s Aladdin through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, is also driving other business behind the show business – with the vast majority of the production’s costumes made in Sydney and the production supporting jobs in the hospitality, theatre and tourism industries.”
