Nowra Visitor Information Centre Officially Opens

Nowra Visitor Information Centre
19 August 2016: Shoalhaven Tourism has officially opened the new Nowra Visitor Information Centre, now located in the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.

The move comes as the National and International Visitors Surveys report an estimated total of 3.1 million visitors to the region for the year ending March 2016, an increase of approximately 11 per cent compared to the same period in 2015. Housing the Nowra Visitor Services in a multi-functional centre represents the first stage of Shoalhaven Tourism's industry-leading approach, centred on encouraging visitors to spend more time and money in the region.

Importantly, tourism staff will have more face-to-face contact with tourism operators and businesses - a key request from a survey recently conducted by Shoalhaven Tourism amongst businesses who rely on visitors to the region.

The new Visitor Information Centre has been designed to meet the needs of tourism customers by providing information when and how they want it. In addition to facilitating face-to-face interaction between visitors and staff, the Centre also boasts the digital touchscreen information kiosks that further connect visitors with Shoalhaven tourism operators, businesses and experiences.

The official opening celebrations today included family-friendly festivities showcasing local tourism operators, a native animal display by the Shoalhaven Zoo, kid's activities and entertainment, Thousands in tourism experiences giveaways and a complimentary Sausage sizzle.

Shoalhaven Tourism Manager, Ms. Coralie Bell says the new Nowra Visitor Information Centre is designed with the tourism customer in mind: “Our focus is on delivering the information visitors to the Shoalhaven need, in a format they desire, so it's easy to create a memorable holiday experience in the Shoalhaven. We are making visitor services more relevant and available to everyone who visits, which in turn means we can maximise the promotion of our incredible operators and businesses that are the lifeblood of the local tourism industry.”

Shoalhaven Tourism Advisory Group Chair, Ms. Lynn Locke adds: “Ultimately we want to see visitors staying longer in the region and engaging with more of our amazing tourism operators. The new Information Centre is a tangible investment in local tourism to encourage strong and consistent visitor spend in the region, further growing our region's visitor economy.”

Measures are in place to ensure a smooth transition to the new location including installing adequate signage from the highway, allocating parking spaces for larger vehicles such as RVs and camper trailers and reassigning existing parking for visitors.
