Canberra's Visitor Information Centre Moves Lakeside

VisitCanberra has relocated its visitor information centre to a new central lakeside location adjacent the popular Commonwealth Park and co-located with the National Capital Exhibition and The Deck cafe at Regatta Point.

The Canberra and Region Visitors Centre (CRVC) will provide a more engaging experience for visitors, with state-of-the-art digital features, a new concierge-style service offered by staff and volunteers, a dedicated kids area plus new merchandise and Canberra District wine and regional produce offerings for sale.

Large screen LED televisions including a wall dedicated to showing curated #VisitCanberra Instagram images, video content and touch screen technology will show visitors the diversity of tourism experiences on offer in the Canberra region.

VisitCanberra Deputy Director Jo Verden said the move closer to the city centre would benefit visitors.

'The view from Regatta Point across Lake Burley Griffin is stunning. You can see many of the capital's iconic attractions and get a sense of architect Walter Burley Griffin's vision of Canberra,” Ms Verden said.

'It also highlights how Canberra offers visitors one good thing after another. A quick glance out the information centre window and you can see the NGA where Australia's national art collection is kept; kids heading into Questacon to get engaged with fun science experiences; people bike riding, taking segway tours or walkers enjoying Lake Burley Griffin and bulbs getting ready to bloom in Commonwealth Park in anticipation of Australia's largest spring festival, Floriade.”

The CRVC's position alongside another of our city's attractions, the National Capital Exhibition, provides visitors with the opportunity to learn more about Canberra's history and purpose as the nation's capital.

Importantly, for visitors driving to Canberra, Regatta Point offers plenty of existing off street parking for cars, caravans and tour buses and access is via all main arterial roads into Canberra.

Extensive directional signage has been installed to direct visitors to the new central location which is expected to be used by more Canberrans seeking information for themselves and also their visiting friends and relatives.

More than 30 local businesses were involved in the creation of the new centre including AMC Architecture (design) and FM Projects Australia (construction works). The ACT Government and National Capital Authority in partnership project managed the co-location of the CRVC to Regatta Point.

The CRVC plays an important role in communicating what's on offer to visitors in the city and region. The visitor economy employs 16,400 Canberrans and is worth $1.7 billion in domestic and international overnight visitation expenditure.

The CRVC is open daily – 9am to 5pm weekdays and 9am to 4pm weekends and public holidays except Christmas Day. The National Capital Exhibition opens daily 9am to 5pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm weekends, Australia Day and Canberra Day (closed other public holidays).
