| Light to Light Walk |
Tucked into the far south coast of New South Wales, the Light to Light walk is a nature-lover’s dream — now reimagined and ready to be explored like never before. This 32-kilometre stretch of wild coastline in Ben Boyd National Park has recently undergone major upgrades, transforming it into one of the country’s most immersive multi-day hiking experiences.
Starting at Boyds Tower and winding its way south to Green Cape Lightstation, the walk is a journey through time, culture, and coastal majesty. Along the way, hikers are treated to windswept cliffs, tucked-away beaches, and bushland teeming with wildlife. It’s not just a walk — it’s an encounter with nature in its rawest form.
Step Into a Multi-Day Coastal Epic
The newly upgraded trail is designed for a multi-day adventure, allowing hikers to cover the distance at a relaxed pace. With new infrastructure in place, including environmentally sensitive campgrounds and better track surfaces, the experience is both more comfortable and sustainable. The walk is typically broken into three sections, each around 10 kilometres. Campgrounds such as Bittangabee Bay offer a stunning overnight backdrop, where the bush meets the sea and the stars burn bright. Campsites are accessible and thoughtfully integrated into the landscape, preserving the natural character while providing a welcoming rest point.
Pack Light, Take in the Sights
From white-sand coves to dramatic headlands, every part of the Light to Light walk feels like a hidden gem. One moment you’re descending onto a stretch of beach with barely a footprint, and the next you’re ascending to a cliffside vantage point where whales breach in the distance during their migration season (May to November).Take your time to enjoy long lunches on the headlands, explore rock pools, or simply listen to the wind sweeping through banksias. The trail is not just about distance — it’s about deep, quiet immersion.
A Journey Rooted in Culture and Conservation
This is Yuin Country, and the upgraded trail honours that heritage. Interpretive signage and guided cultural tours are being integrated into the experience, allowing walkers to gain deeper understanding of the Indigenous connection to this land. The trail upgrades are part of the broader NSW Government’s commitment to eco-tourism and National Parks access, ensuring that the Light to Light walk remains a sustainable, low-impact way to explore the Sapphire Coast’s breathtaking wilderness.
Plan Your Walk
The trail can be accessed year-round, but spring and autumn offer the best weather. While experienced walkers can complete the hike independently, there are also guided options and transport services for pickups at either end. You’ll need to book your campsites in advance and prepare for remote conditions — there are no shops along the trail, so everything must be packed in and out. But for those willing to disconnect and venture deep into nature, the Light to Light walk is one of New South Wales’ most unforgettable experiences.
