Lao Cultural Week in Vietnam: Cultivating exemplary friendship between the two countries

Recently, in Ha Noi, the Lao Cultural Week was held with series of art programs boldly expressing the traditional cultural identities of the Lao people and also praising the good tradition of solidarity and friendship between the two countries of Laos-Vietnam.

The Opening Ceremony of Lao Cultural Week took place at Hanoi Opera House. Attending the event were H.E.Mrs. Suanesavanh Vignaket, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos; H.E.Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam; Representatives of leaders of departments, ministries and branches of Laos and Vietnam.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of Lao Cultural Week in Vietnam, H.E.Mrs. Suanesavanh Vignaket, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos said, Lao Cultural Week event in Vietnam is organised to implement the Culture and Tourism Cooperation Plan for the period 2021-2025 between the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

At the same time, this event also aims to celebrate major holidays in Laos, including the 48th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the 103rd birthday of President Kaysone Phomvihane.

In the beautiful capital of Ha Noi with a thousand years of civilization, a City for peace, friendly and hospitable people, the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos coordinates with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam to organise Lao Cultural Week in Vietnam. This is an event with the participation of young and typical artists of Laos, with dance, singing and circus performances... boldly expressing the traditional cultural and artistic identities of the people of all ethnic groups of Laos, praising the beauty of the country and the achievements of building, protecting and developing Laos. The programme also includes musical performances and dances praising the special and passionate tradition of solidarity and friendship between the two countries of Laos-Vietnam and Vietnam-Laos. In addition to the performance programme in Ha Noi, the Lao art troupe will have a performance programme to serve the Vietnamese public in Ninh Binh Province, added Minister Suanesavanh Vignaket.

Minister Suanesavanh Vignaket sent her sincere thanks to the Party and Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as well as the Vietnamese people for supporting the Lao People's Democratic Republic in the process of preparing to take over the 2024 ASEAN Chairmanship. Lao PDR looks forward to and hopes for Vietnam's continued support to Laos in hosting the delegations of leaders of ASEAN countries and ASEAN partners, as well as the preparation and successful organisation of relevant ASEAN summits to continuously develop the ASEAN Community.

H.E.Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam affirmed that the Vietnam - Laos relationship is exemplary and sustainable.

Leaning back against the majestic Truong Son range, drinking the same Mekong water, the history of fighting for national liberation and building the countries of Vietnam and Laos is also the history of standing side by side, supporting and helping each other to firmly grasp national independence and socialism.

Today, the relationship between the two countries is constantly being strengthened and developed, going deeper, achieving important results in the fields of politics, economics, security and defence, culture, education... Cooperation and mutual assistance between agencies of the two Parties, National Assemblies, States, Governments and localities of Vietnam and Laos are always strengthened, with practical and in-depth results.

According to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, the implementation of the Culture, Arts and Tourism Cooperation Plan for the period 2021-2025, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos jointly organised the Lao Cultural Week in Vietnam in 2023 in Ha Noi Capital and Ninh Binh Province.

Through the traditional music, dance, and music program performed by Lao artists, Vietnamese and Lao audiences and international friends have the opportunity to better understand Lao culture.

This is also an opportunity for Vietnam and Laos to review the tradition of friendship between the two Parties, the two States and the two peoples, and look forward to a future of increasingly stronger and more effective cooperation.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong believes that the organisation of Lao Cultural Week in Vietnam in 2023 has important significance, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The Opening Ceremony of Lao Cultural Week in Vietnam took place impressively with special art performances by Lao artists. Dance, circus, and singing performances such as: Beautiful Laos, Ngam kip Champa, Boun Kare dance... bringing the public moments to enjoy art and explore the cultural identity of “the land of a million elephants”. Along with that are art performances praising the beauty of the country and people of Vietnam such as: Ha Noi of faith and hope, Yarn of memory, yarn of love...

​Closing the program was the Lao-Vietnamese Friendship Song and dance performance, once again affirming the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos that last eternally.
