DEVIL’S CORNER ADDS TWO NEW WINES TO ITS PREMIUM ‘HAZARDS RANGE’

Popular east coast Tasmanian vineyard Devil’s Corner has today released two new wines as part of its renowned ‘Hazards Range’ – Mt Baudin Chardonnay 2022 and Mt Mayson Syrah 2022 – bolstering the range to four.

Produced only in exceptional vintages, the Hazards Range celebrates Devil’s Corner’s most premium tier of wine hallmarked by its tenacity, time-honoured techniques, and grace. The range draws inspiration from the eponymous granite peaks of The Hazards mountain range, which the wines are named after and that serves as the backdrop to the Devil’s Corner cellar door and vineyard.

MT BAUDIN CHARDONNAY 2022

The only white in the Hazards Range, the Mt Baudin Chardonnay is an exceptional wine showcasing great intensity with a purity of flavour and length. It is complex and layered with inviting notes of luscious stone fruit and bright citrus, complemented by a subtle cashew nuttiness.

In a glass, it exhibits a vibrant, golden hue. A chardonnay of this class and distinction warrants quality food accompaniments. Try it with baked whole fish barramundi with lemon and thyme, served with a zesty hollandaise dressing. It also shines next to a selection of cheeses – think brie and camembert.Price: $70 per bottle

MT MAYSON SYRAH 2022

A syrah that embodies everything that a cool-climate Tasmanian red wine should be – enticing flavours of dark berry fruits with a tantalising hint of spice, all wrapped in an elegant structure that leads to a long and graceful finish.

In a glass, this syrah is deep, alluring magenta in colour. It is best paired with crispy roast duck drizzled in a rich red wine jus, served on creamy garlic mashed potato, and roasted beets. For something more relaxed, pour and serve with aged cheeses like cheddar and parmesan. Price: $70 per bottle

Devil’s Corner Senior Winemaker Tom Wallace describes the new wines as the pinnacle of what Devil’s Corner produces, with the wines a true reward from the environment in which they are made.

“It is nature’s canvas that sets these wines apart – generous soils, select parcels of fruit and east-coast Tasmania’s harsh elements, which are often unrelenting and unpredictable at best. Thankfully, we have learned to lean into these conditions and harness them to create two of the finest wines,” he said.

The Mt Baudin Chardonnay and Mt Mayson Syrah joins the Mt Amos Pinot Noir and Mt Dove Pinot Syrah.
