Djerba Island has been placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List

Djerba island, which covers nearly 198 square miles, is located in the Gulf of Gabes on the Mediterranean Sea. 

It is known for its religious diversity, has ancient mosques, churches and synagogues and natural landscape. 

Thousands of Jewish visitors visit the El Ghriba synagogue built 2,400 years ago for Jewish prayers and rituals. www.whc.unesco.org/en/list/1640 

There are now nineTunisian sites on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, with the others being the : 
 Amphitheatre of El Jem 
 Archaeological Site of Carthage 
 the Medina of Tunis 
 Ichkeul National Park 
 the Punic Town of Kerkuane and its Necropolis 
 Kairouan, Medina of Sousse, and
