Thirty UK-based floral designers and growers will present floral displays throughout Walpole’s Georgian home. Hortus Poeticus will also ‘transform’ the stairwell with English flowers that will fill the space with ‘remarkable scent and beauty’.

Strawberry Hill’s gardening team will be on hand to give advice and visitors will be able to wander the five-acres of gardens, which comprise beds, borders, walks, groves, lawns and woodland.

Strawberry Hill House & Garden

Strawberry Hill House & Garden, which was created by Horace Walpole (1717-1797 is known as Britain’s finest example of domestic Georgian Gothic revival architecture.

It has been open to visitors for over 250 years.

The third son of Sir Robert Walpole, Britain’s first Prime Minister, Horace Walpole was a pivotal figure in 18th-century society, literature, art and architecture.

From 1739-41, he embarked on a Grand Tour and European influences can be seen in the design of Strawberry Hill House and the works that formed its vast collection of treasures.

Strawberry Hill’s 18th-century garden is one of the earliest in the English naturalistic style. Horace Walpole, a keen gardener wrote the influential essay The History of the Modern Taste in Gardening, published in 1780.

The grounds at Strawberry Hill House have been restored to much of their original appearance by using Eighteenth Century maps and paintings and Walpole’s own writing.

Today it is Grade II* listed and of national importance, as a reminder of a fascinating period in garden history.
