Free Family Fun at the MCA This Summer

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) is delighted to announce a special program of family-friendly activities as part of its summer exhibition, Grayson Perry: My Pretty Little Art Career, with free entry for children under twelve, an in-gallery kids art trail to uncover riddles and patterns in the artist's work, a free pop-up creative space and kids-friendly dining options at the MCA Cafe.

Curated by MCA Chief Curator Rachel Kent, the exhibition is part of the 2015-2016 Sydney International Art Series and the first major survey of the work of one of Britain's most acclaimed contemporary artists, Grayson Perry.

Following two extremely popular pop-up family spaces for both Chuck Close: Prints, Process and Collaboration and Light Show exhibitions, the MCA will open 'My Pretty Little Art Studio', a dedicated Grayson Perry-themed creative space for budding artists and their carers to enjoy on summer school holidays and on weekends throughout the exhibition.

This specially designed space is located inside the MCA's National Centre for Creative Learning on Level 3. It offers a range of free interactive activities for children of all ages, including paper-plane decorating workshops and a 'design-your-own-pot' station, where visitors will see their own pot designs projected onto real pots in a digital recreation of Grayson Perry's London studio.

Yael Filipovic, MCA Public Engagement Manager, commented: “My Pretty Little Art Studio is designed to encourage the young – and the young at heart – to engage with and respond to Grayson Perry's fascinating body of work. It's about families and friends coming together at the end of the exhibition for a fun, social, hands-on art-making experience.”

In addition to 'My Pretty Little Art Studio', the MCA will offer a range of activities for children of all ages including Art Play (every Wednesday morning throughout the exhibition, except during school holidays), Art Safari on 2 and 26 February (ages 3-5), Sunday Family Fun Day on 28 February (ages 4+), and Genext on 6 March (ages 12-18).

The MCA Cafe will offer kid-friendly meals including a new Kids Lunch Box packed with a chicken sandwich, fresh fruit, cookies and a banana milkshake.

Family tickets* to Grayson Perry are available for $50 at tickets.mca.com.au. Free entry for kids under 12.
