Sydney’s Major League Baseball makes world's top 14

The largest metropolitan daily newspaper in the United States, The Los Angeles Times, has highlighted Sydney’s upcoming Major League Baseball event as one of 14 must-see sporting spectacles in 2014.

The Opening Series of Major League Baseball in Sydney has been featured on the newspaper’s latimes.com website – which attracts more than 22 million unique visitors a month.

The world-class event will see sporting icons the LA Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks descend on Sydney for six days, to play two opening series games at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 22 and 23 March.

In describing the event, The Los Angeles Times said: “Think of this as the ultimate road trip. The Dodgers open the Major League Baseball season with two games against arch-rival Arizona on March 22 and 23 on Sydney's historic cricket grounds renovated to accommodate baseball. If you've always wanted to see splendid Sydney or can't wait to get back, here's one of the most exciting chances in years.”

The newspaper also featured a photo of Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis and Diamondbacks pitcher Patrick Corbin playing catch on Sydney’s Manly Beach.

Fans and sports lovers will flock into the city to see the Sydney Cricket Ground transformed into a Major League Baseball field, with the construction of an infield clay area, pitcher's mound, dugouts and additional grandstand.
