Langkawi, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia, has been listed among the ten best islands in Asia in 2014 Tripadvisor Travellers’ choice.
The award, which was published on their website recently, ranked the tropical island tenth best in Asia. Palawan in the Philippines and Koh Samui in Thailand were listed at eighth and ninth best respectively.
Topping the chart was Ko Tao in Surat Thani province in Thailand, which was also ranked 2014 tenth best island in the world.
Langkawi, which is officially known as the Jewel of Kedah, is part of an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. It claims romantic white-sandy beaches, forested hills, waterfalls and crystal-clear waters. It was given a World Geopark status by UNESCO in 2007.
Tourists coming to the island can travel either by sea or air.
The island which is also known mysteriously as ‘Legendary island’ was named second in 2013 Tripadvisor Travellers’ choice of ten best destinations in Malaysia.
