- Laguna Lang Co Triathlon hosted by Banyan tree Lang Co and Angsana Lang Co
Building on the successful 20 year history of its sister event, the Laguna Phuket Triathlon in Thailand, this exciting event is on trend with the exploding popularity of triathlons and increased worldwide interest in sports tourism. Angsana Lang Co and Banyan Tree Lang Co are perfectly positioned for the event on a picture-perfect beach framed by the Truong Son Mountain Range – visitors to the Laguna Lang Co Triathlon can experience world-renowned luxury hospitality while enjoying the thrill of a rigorous, competitive sport.
The stunning location along Vietnam’s pristine central coastline attracts both professional and amateur competitors as well as spectators from across the world. Just 60 minutes’ drive from Da Nang and within an easy drive to a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the new Banyan Tree and Angsana resorts offer two award-winning spas, a championship golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo, private villa residences, convention facilities and an array of recreational offerings.
The growing trend of travellers opting for more active holidays spent swimming, biking, and running correlates with the worldwide interest in living more healthy lifestyles. Asia provides the perfect backdrop for these new sporty, health-conscious travelers, verified by the increase in competitor numbers at the Laguna Phuket and Laguna Lang Co triathlons each year.
One of the most picturesque Triathlons in the world, the Central Vietnam race includes a 1.8 km swim along Laguna Lang Co’s stunning beach, a 62 km cycle through the tropical Hue countryside and a 12 km run across the resort’s golf course framed by mountains and beaches. In last year’s Laguna Lang Co Triathlon, the men’s race was won by Italian Massimo Cigana with an overall time of 2 hours 28 minutes, while four time world champion Australian Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack came second. On the women’s side, Radka Vodickova from Czechoslovakia raced to first place with an overall time of 2 hours 52 minutes.
This year’s Triathlon is expected to attract between 200 – 300 amateur competitors across four age categories, as well as 12 professional athletes. There is a pot of USD$18,000 to be split amongst the winners of the Triathlon and 62 km bike race.
