Long burning tailed meteor dazzles the east coast sky

Skies of at least 10 states from Ohio to Maryland and all the way down to South Carolina were lit up by a dazzling light of a meteor on Thursday, 27.02.14 night.

The meteor had a long burning tail streaking across the sky and angled in such a manner that it looked as if it was going to crash into the city according to the American Meteor Society.

People described the object as a white, blue and green light flashing across the sky. Some even said that it looked like a plane on fire.

American Meteor Society said that it was unusually bright , as a fireball a bit of rock, metal or ice from space that shines brighter than Venus as it burns up in Earth’s atmosphere. The object had generated at least 155 reports to the meteor tracking group as of Friday morning.

Over 100 people had cited another meteor last Monday from Maryland north to Connecticut. Several thousand of these objects that could be classified as fireballs enter the atmosphere every day, but most go unseen because they burn up over oceans or uninhabited areas.
