The NSW Government recently supported Wheelchair Sports NSW in hosting the 2014 Women’s Festival of Wheelchair Basketball. The event was held from Friday 31 January to Sunday 2 February at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation in Narrabeen.
The Festival brought together 40 women from all over Australia of all ages and abilities for a round-robin competition and skills sessions with Australian wheelchair basketball coaches, culminating in an All Stars game on the Sunday.
The Hon Gabrielle Upton, NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, visited during the event to offer words of encouragement to competitors, and even jumped in a chair to get some coaching tips from six-time paralympian, Liesl Tesch AM.
Congratulations to Team Richie on winning the final, to Laura Baseggio for achieving the Lisa Edmonds Spirit of the Game Award, and to Hannah Dodd for receiving the Emerging Glider Award.
