Queensland Rail – Train for the Cycle of Giving

Queensland Rail has thrown its support behind The Prince Charles Hospital Cycle of Giving event, by providing a train to transport riders living in Brisbane to the starting point in Landsborough, on the Sunshine Coast, on Sunday February 23.

Up to 400 cyclists and their bikes will travel on the special charter to take part in the Charity Bike Ride and Family Fun Day.

Queensland Rail’s General Manager of Media and Corporate Relations, Rebecca Masci, said donating the special train to transport participants had provided a huge boost for the charity event.

“Registration numbers in the Cycle of Giving have more than doubled since Queensland Rail began sponsoring the event last year and this year we are expecting more than a thousand cyclists to help raise awareness and money for organ donation and research,” Ms Masci said.

In addition to providing the special charter, Queensland Rail is also assisting with the promotion of the event and calling for volunteers.

“The Prince Charles Hospital plays a significant role in keeping the Queensland community well, and we do all we can to support them in that role,” Ms Masci said.

“The hospital is one of our major non-profit partners, and we are honoured to participate in a number of its charity activities including the Charity Bike Ride and Family Fun Day.”

Queensland Rail will open Roma Street station early at approximately 4:30am so riders can board the train. It will then stop at Carseldine and Caboolture, for the shorter distance rides, before reaching its final destination at Landsborough.

“I have no doubt that 400 riders all decked out in their riding gear with their bikes, heading to this very important event on the train will be quite a sight,” she said.

The Cycle of Giving begins at 6:30am at Landsborough railway station and culminates in a Family Fun Day and Health Expo, at 7th Brigade Park, Chermside.
