Over 150,000 visitors and local residents gathered in Tsim Sha Tsui on the first evening of the Year of the Horse (31 January) to watch the 2014 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade, which featured 34 festive floats and performing troupes from 15 countries and regions.
Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the night parade has received title sponsorship from Cathay Pacific Airways for the 16th consecutive year. To tie in with the theme “New Year Party @ World City”, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, where the parade started, was turned into a glittering “circus”. The Hong Kong “king” and “queen” of clowns, who were champions in the World Clown Competition, also made an appearance, amusing spectators along the parade route.
Visitors and members of the public who wish to take a closer look at some of the dazzling parade floats can visit Lam Tsuen, Tai Po, from 1 to 16 February. Selected international performing troupes will perform in Lam Tsuen and at major shopping malls on 1 and 2 February as well.
