| FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025 |
Thailand is poised to take centre court on the global sports stage as it hosts the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025, one of the most prestigious events in international volleyball. From 22 August to 7 September 2025, thirty-two elite women’s national teams will compete across four iconic Thai cities: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Nakhon Ratchasima.
The tournament not only underscores Thailand’s reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events, but also aligns with the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, under the banner of “Grand Sports.”
A Global Stage for Sporting Greatness
The championship will feature powerhouse teams from across five continents, including the USA, Brazil, Italy, Japan, China, Türkiye, the Netherlands, and reigning champions Serbia. Host nation Thailand, with its passionate fan base and rising global ranking, adds a compelling local narrative to this international showdown.
The tournament kicks off with the Pool Phase from 22 to 27 August, played across all four host cities. The top 16 teams will then converge in Bangkok for the knockout stages, including the Round of 16 (29 August–1 September), Quarter-Finals (3–4 September), Semi-Finals (6 September), and the Final on 7 September.
The Cities Behind the Championship
Each host city brings a unique energy and backdrop to the tournament.
Bangkok, the capital, is no stranger to international sports, having hosted the Asian Games and most recently the 2024 VNL Women’s Finals.
Chiang Mai, rich in culture and mountain charm, has a long volleyball legacy, including hosting the 1995 Women’s Asian Championship.
Phuket, famed for its beaches, offers a perfect setting for sports tourism, having hosted multiple FIVB beach volleyball events.
Nakhon Ratchasima, widely regarded as Thailand’s volleyball heartland, brings deep community support and experience from past Asian and youth championships.
Sustainability and Celebration on a Grand Scale
This is more than a tournament — it’s a celebration of sport, sustainability, and culture. Through the “Green Heart Event” model, Thailand is committing to eco-friendly event management, reducing waste, and preserving the environment while delivering a world-class fan experience.
TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool highlighted how the event encapsulates the Five Grand Concepts — Grand Festivity, Grand Moment, Grand Privilege, Grand Invitation, and Grand Celebration. These principles shape the broader tourism and events calendar, aimed at creating unforgettable memories for both visitors and locals.
A Catalyst for Tourism and Economic Growth
Minister of Tourism and Sports Mr. Sorawong Thienthong estimates that the championship will generate over 8.5 billion Baht through tourism-related spending and global media exposure, reaching more than 1.3 billion viewers worldwide. It offers fans the chance to witness elite volleyball while exploring Thailand’s cultural and natural wonders.
A Year of Unmissable Sporting Events
The championship headlines a blockbuster year for Thai sport. Other major events include the 33rd SEA Games, the 13th ASEAN Para Games, the MotoGP PT Grand Prix, the Muaythai World Festival, and the Honda LPGA Thailand. These events not only elevate Thailand’s profile but strengthen its tourism economy and community pride.
With volleyball ranked as Thailand’s second most-watched sport, and the national team enjoying strong international support, the 2025 FIVB Championship is set to ignite a wave of national excitement and global attention.
