Fireflies emit a gentle glow during the rainy season to summer nights, symbolizing the arrival of summer in Japan. 

With about 40 species, including the well-known "Genji firefly," "Heike firefly," and "Hime firefly," they thrive in Tottori's nature-rich mountainous areas, attracted to clean water. 

To spot fireflies, optimal conditions include cloudy weather, calm winds, temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius, high humidity, and the timeframe from dusk until 9 p.m. 

Don't miss the Firefly Festival at Misasa Onsen this year, offering a chance to enjoy both the festival and hot springs.
