Kien Giang province launches world’s longest cable car route

Sun Group, a prominent real estate developer in Viet Nam, inaugurated a sea cable car route in An Thoi town, Phu Quoc island district, Mekong delta Kien Giang province, with the aim of serving tourists on the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival which is several days left.

The route has the length of nearly 8,900 meters, which is said the longest in the world, with the one end being An Thoi town and the other being Hon Thom island, the largest in the An Thoi island cluster to the south in Phu Quoc island district.

The Hon Thom cable car system is the first and most important item of the Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park in the southern area of Phu Quoc island invested by Sun Group.

The system has 69 cars capable of carrying 30 passengers each and uses the three-rope cable car technology that is the most modern and safest in the world.

The system and the Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park will officially open to tourists on February 14.

In January, nearly 260,000 tourists came to Phu Quoc island, a year-on-year rise of 51 percent. International tourists increased by 40 percent against the same period last year. On average the district welcomed about 7,000 holidaymakers each day.

Located on the Viet Nam-Cambodia-Thailand marine economic corridor, Phu Quoc is dubbed the “pearl” island.

Phu Quoc features a monsoon tropical climate. It has two seasons, the dry season from November to April and the rainy season from May to October. The average temperature is 28 degrees Celsius, allowing visitors to enjoy the island’s beauty at any time of the year.

Phu Quoc National Park is one of the most attractive places in the district. It is home to 929 plant species, of which 42 are listed in the Vietnamese and world red books of endangered species. The park is part of the Kien Giang biosphere reserve, which was recognised as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2006.

The island was named as one of the 10 most beautiful Asian islands to visit in summer by tourism site www.topinspired.com.

Phu Quoc island district targets to serve at least half a million international tourists in 2018, according to local authorities.
