Destination NSW has just released its latest Nature-based tourism to NSW research snapshot, with a round-up of some of the most popular activities for visitors during the year ending September 2016.
Visitors from China and Sydney residents were the largest source markets for nature-based visitors to NSW.
The research shows more than 90 per cent of Chinese visitors who travelled to NSW, and one third of Sydneysiders, participated in nature-based activities during their trip.
Going to the beach was the most popular activity, followed by visiting National or State parks, bushwalking or rainforest walks.
There were nearly 27 million international and domestic overnight and day trip nature-based visitors to NSW in the year ending September 2016, representing an increase of 9.6 per cent on the previous year. Together, they accounted for 30 per cent of all visitors to the State and spent $18.3 billion, up 12.4 per cent on the year ending September 2015.
