Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CKG) in Tangerang, has won World’s Most Improved Airport 2017 in the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Survey held in a meticulously held survey among 550 airports in the world. Points judged were on the acceleration of airports’ facilities improvements and excellence in quality service based on global standards.
Moreover, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has also soared no less than 19 ranks to 44th place in theSkytrax Top 100 World Airport Awards 2017, from last year’s 63rd place in 2016.
“We have managed to leap by 19 rank points,” exclaimed Muhammad Awaluddin, President Director of Angkasa Pura II operating the West Indonesia airports on March 15th. “It is indeed an honour to named among the world’s top 50 most renowned international airports. We are grateful for every support given by the Indonesian people, including that from the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Arief Yahya,” added Muhammad Awaluddin.
The selection for the Awards was organized in a fair, transparent and scrutinized manner. Some 13.82 million online survey forms were filled by travelers from 105 nations around the world. Survey took place in the period between July 2016 through February 2017 concerning 550 airports worldwide. From the website link http://bit.ly/voteCGK, we can examine that questions mainly involved evaluating the quality of the “performance indicators” of airports, namely: starting right from check-in counters, transfer gates, shopping facilities, security, immigration, all the way to the departure gates. Tin this year’s survey evaluations were on ground services operation of Terminal 2 of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. (The brand new Terminal 3 still being used for Garuda domestic flight operations only).
The e-vote process had multiple phases and terms to go through. Upon entering the website, data input and emails were requested. Any input could be done from smartphones or PCs. One email applied to one account only and was counted as one vote. It also limited one IP address per vote, thus rejecting the chance for any double voting attempts from the same phones-computers-or IP addresses.
On his side Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya said excitedly: “To have an International Airport with world class awards means that Indonesia can now greet guests to Jakarta, a welcoming tourist destination, starting right from the airport itself. Transit or transfer passengers can also enjoy a comfortable wait and spend time browsing around the enhanced facilities going shopping, dining and relaxing”.
The Awards are genuine tokens of International recognition that are certain to raise our national confidence, proving that all is possible when there is determination, hard work, and unity in action. Secondly, the awards are achievements by which we can calibrate our service compatibility vis-à-vis global standards and spur our passion in pursuing service excellence. Third, winning an internationally acclaimed award from a prestigious organization will certainly boost world’s credibility in Indonesia. Positive credibility leads to increased public trust, that will simultaneously increase value.
“Congratulations Soekarno Hatta Airport!” exclaimed Minister Arief Yahya.
