Bendigo Art Gallery is renowned for attracting coveted fashion exhibitions, (think Grace Kelly and most recently, Marilyn Monroe), and it is set to launch yet another exciting retrospective later this year.

In a world first, Dark Wonderland (13 August – 20 November, 2016) will showcase the much-celebrated 20-year career of renowned Australian fashion designer Toni Maticevski.

The exhibition, curated by Bendigo Art Gallery, will reveal the beauty and breadth of Maticevski’s oeuvre, featuring objects from his early practice through to his most recent creations. Highlights include the Monaco Gown worn by Princess Mary to the King’s 80th birthday, and the specially commissioned gold lame gown worn by Jessica Mauboy for Eurovision 2014.

It will coincide with the launch of The Elegant Rebel, a visual archive spanning the designer’s fashion career, featuring more than 200 images and illustrations, which will be published by Thames & Hudson. It will be complemented by a series of public programs, events and workshops.
