FRESH SNOW AT MT BULLER – COUNTDOWN TO OPENING!

Mt Buller was been dusted with fresh snow today and flurries have seen snow accumulating on the upper mountain with temperatures barely moving above zero degrees in the resort.

Cold sub-zero temperatures are forecast for the coming days which is good news for snow lovers who are already counting down the 16 remaining days to the official start of the 2016 snow season on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts Laurie Blampied welcomed the early snow and said preparations were well underway in readiness for the ski season.

“It’s not unusual to get these early snowfalls in May, this is our second snowfall in recent weeks. It’s exciting to suddenly see how the resort transforms when snow arrives. There is a terrific buzz around the mountain today - there is nothing quite like a dusting of fresh snow to get everyone racing to make those finishing touches ready for Opening Weekend.”

Mt Buller has invested a further $450,000 in snowmaking this winter and snowmakers are currently on standby expecting to make their first snow for the winter on the weekend.

“We’ve been busy making improvements around the resort ahead of the ski season, adding to our snowmaking system and grooming terrain ready for the snow. Our snowmakers are likely to get busy this weekend and start getting some base snow down for all of us eager to get out for a ski soon,” Blampied said.

The 2016 snow season will officially commence on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend on June 11. There will be a lively weekend of winter celebrations held up in the Mt Buller alpine village including the traditional ‘blessing of the snow’.

Just three hours from Melbourne, Mt Buller is the most accessible major snow resort in Australia with over 300 hectares of skiable terrain, more lifts, more runs and more accommodation options than any other Victorian snow resort.
