Superboats Add to the Excitement of a Fraser Coast Holiday

Combine a relaxing coastal escape with the thrill of high octane powerboat racing on Queensland's Fraser Coast this month.

On the weekend of 28-30 November, the beautiful waters of Hervey Bay will host the series finale of the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships.

The weekend program includes an Esplanade boat parade, markets and entertainment and of course fast and furious racing action out on the water.

Fraser Coast Opportunities Tourism acting Manager Tas Webber said the weekend offered a chance to witness the water-going equivalent to Formula 1 racing.

"The sound, speed and power of these machines are unmatched in ocean racing and the fact that the series winner will be crowned in Hervey Bay only adds to the fun and excitement," Mr Webber said.

A dedicated event zone will be set up at Hervey Bay's Torquay beach, with roving buskers, licensed wet area and market stalls for the main race day on Sunday 30 November.

Spectators can line up anywhere along Hervey Bay's beachfront to watch these million dollar, 40ft boats as they race at speeds of up to 200km/h around a triangular course running from Torquay to Point Vernon, within 600 metres from the shore.

“If anyone wishes to get closer to the action, they can buy front row tickets for 360 degree views and catering on board special catamarans and sailing vessels moored in an exclusive area inside the race circuit.”

Mr Webber said visitors could sample a range of Fraser Coast attractions over the weekend, including the vibrant cafés and bars along the Hervey Bay Esplanade and World Heritage- listed Fraser Island.

“There is almost unlimited fun and action to be found out on the water with dolphin cruises, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and aqua trikes, wake boarding and kite surfing.

“For high powered thrills, visitors can take a 12,000ft skydive with breath-taking views of Hervey Bay and Fraser Island or experience guided jet-ski or jet boat tours from Hervey Bay to Fraser Island,” he said.

Hervey Bay offers a range of accommodation options – from five star luxury to beachfront caravan and camping sites.
