Canberra's Sensational Summer of Events

From world-class sporting events to blockbuster exhibitions, fantastic festivals and national celebrations, Canberra is the place to be this summer.

A bumper season of summer sport in the capital forms the backdrop to a busy summer events season. The nation's capital is among the five Australian venues hosting the AFC Asian Cup 2015. For the first time outside of Asia, between 10 and 23 January, 2015, you can catch seven matches including a quarter final from the seats at Canberra Stadium.
Lovers of cricket are in for a treat this summer with plenty of cricket action at historic Manuka Oval. Catch the Prime Minister's XI v England on 14 January and the KFC T20 Big Bash League final on 28 January. For the first time in Canberra, three ICC Cricket World Cup matches will also be played throughout February and March.

In addition, an action-packed and diverse calendar of events is on offer. The much anticipated summer blockbuster James Turrell: A Retrospective opens on 13 December at the National Gallery of Australia. A departure from the gallery's traditional exhibitions, James Turrell: A Retrospective is a purpose-built exhibition of 50 works tracing five decades of American artist Turrell's career. You will see early light projections and holograms through to immersive light installations and new acquisitions, drawings, prints and photographs.

Also opening in December as part of the Australian War Memorial's First World War centenary commemorations is the redeveloped First World War Gallery. Explore the redeveloped galleries, hear the Roll of Honour Soundscapes and at night see the names of those who gave their lives projected onto the memorial. The National Multicultural Festival, Australia Day celebrations and the return of ENLIGHTEN festival for 10 illuminated nights, along with the debut of the ENLIGHTEN Night Noodle Market, are set to add to the sizzling summer events program.

In February you can follow the Poacher's Way during the Summerside Festival and discover hidden secrets during this month-long regional food and wine festival with master classes, twilight garden concerts and art exhibitions.

Kick back and enjoy a mini break in Canberra this summer and experience the best of what is new in town as well as some old favourites. Our flourishing arts scene, thriving food and wine industry, outdoor activities and array of national and family friendly attractions are sure to entertain and excite.
