Along with a giant sparkling snowflake, an ice-rink, snow cannons and snow pits, an inflatable iceberg will be installed at Cockle Bay in June as part of Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority’s inaugural Cool Yule Festival.
Minister for Planning Pru Goward said Cool Yule, starting today, and running until 13 July, is a brand new event celebrating all things winter and encouraging visitors to get out and enjoy the cooler weather.
“By offering an innovative take on the traditional winter Festival, Cool Yule will help to drive visitors to Darling Harbour during the typically quieter winter period.
“Darling Harbour remains open for business during the current period of redevelopment, and is keeping the mood fun and celebratory for visitors,” she said.
The Festival, which spans the July school holidays, will feature a range of daytime activities for kids – including an outdoor ice rink and snow pits – that are free or affordably priced. Come nightfall, Cool Yule will present more extreme winter activities – like chainsaw ice sculpting – to entertain adults, while city lights reflect on the six metre tall iceberg, floating in the bay.
Minister Goward said Cool Yule has the support of the Darling Harbour Alliance, a public-private partnership between Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and major tenants in the precinct.
