Ape aficionados are now able to get closer to orangutans at the Perth Zoo, thanks to a new two-metre high boardwalk around the enclosure.
Built using renewable and recycled materials, the $3.6 million exhibit has a rainforest atmosphere and features four extra vertical poles linked to the main towers with climbing ropes, encouraging the orangutans to spend more time up high.
The boardwalk has a Jungle School theme, reflecting Perth Zoo's work in preparing suitable zoo-born orangutans for release into a jungle sanctuary in Sumatra, Indonesia.
