Tokyo is a city of extremes

Tokyo is a city of extremes. Here, trends are pushed to the next level and eccentric is the norm. The resulting cityscape is wonderfully weird and bursting with intrigue at every turn.

With a total of 280 Michelin starred restaurants offering uber fresh sushi, flavoursome ramen and salty, crunchy tempura, you know you’re in for a gastronomical experience. Spend your days exploring the stunningly manicured parks and shrines, or delve deeper into the Tokyo weird and sip on a beer at one of the infamous cat cafés.

When the sun sets, Tokyo really comes alive. Grey buildings draped with cabling light up with a thousand flashing signs and the whirr of the Pachinko Parlour fills the streets. Up there with New York and Paris as one of the most exciting cities in the world, Tokyo has plenty to offer the curious traveller.

Cat Café
Cat cafes are a perfect example of Tokyo seeing a trend and taking it to the extreme. Instead of keeping pets at home, residents pop by the local cat café to get their fix. Order drinks and a “cat snack” and bribe yourself some furry friends.

Meiji Shrine
No visit to Japan is complete without a little bit of history and culture. There are quite a few shrines dappled around the city, including the massive Meiji Shrine located adjacent to the popular Yoyogi park.

Tsukiji Fish Market
Tsukiji fish market is the biggest fish market in the world, and the attending fishermen mean business. Arrive early to watch the tuna auction, or saunter by late morning for an ultra fresh sushi breakfast.
