Pamagirri Celebrates 21 Years

The Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience at Rainforestation Nature Park will turn twenty-one this year, with celebrations planned to coincide with NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week.

For over two decades, the Pamagirri Guides have provided an interactive and educational experience to worldwide visitors about their Aboriginal culture.

The experience currently includes traditional dance performances and a guided Dreamtime walk, with boomerang and spear throwing, and didgeridoo playing.

New components are being added to the experience to coincide with celebrations including a historical timeline located in the Cultural Centre showcasing photos, information and artwork contributed by the Pamagirri dance troupe.

Local Sales Executive William Tranby who started at Rainforestation as a Pamagirri Guide has been involved in the planning process.

“We have already constructed two out of five traditional Aboriginal huts from natural resources.” he said.

“Visitors will be able to step back in time to see how Aboriginal people lived hundreds of years ago.”

More extensions will be completed towards the end of the year, including a rainforest bush walk to explain Aboriginal rainforest foods and medicine.

Rainforestation Nature Park has three unique attractions: Amphibious Army Duck Tours of the rainforest, the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, and the Koala & Wildlife Park. Rainforestation is situated on the Kennedy Highway, 5 minutes from Kuranda Village, and 30 minutes from Cairns.
