UK coastal stays with an inn on the doorstep

Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire and Winterton Cottages in Norfolk are highlighting coastal properties with an inn nearby.

Pembrokeshire 

The Welsh county of Pembrokeshire, an area of outstanding natural beauty, has an island feel, being surrounded on three sides by sea The landscape is protected by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with the Pembrokeshire Coast Path offering 186 miles of trail. It takes in coves and harbours, over 50 beaches, market towns and villages and St Davids, the smallest city in Britain.

The Swan, Little Haven 

Guests can stay in an apartment above The Swan, a grade two listed 200-yearold former sailor’s Inn in the harbour village of Little Haven. At low tide there is a walk along the beach to the village of Broad Haven with its long sandy beach and or along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Nearby is the tiny City of St Davids with its Cathedral and Bishops Palace.

Puffin Cottage is a stone cottage set on the water’s edge of Pembroke Dock opposite the popular Ferry Inn. This former ferry terminus now pub is known for its excellent local food and ales. The property is near to the historic town of Pembroke and its medieval Castle. South Pembrokeshire’s most popular beaches including Bosherston, the lily ponds, Broadhaven South, Barafundle Bay and West Angle Bay, are all within a short drive. 

Glan Y Mor 

This detached house of Glan Y Mor overlooks the coast and the sloping sands at Freshwater East, Pembrokeshire. The Freshwater Inn is on the doorstep and the beach is within walking distance is Glan Y Mor. Black Hall Cottage, Amroth 

Guests staying at Black Hall Cottage in Amroth the New Inn, a 16th century pub, next door, while it’s an easy walk to Wiseman’s Bridge Pub along the Coastal Path. The nearby Amroth Arms overlooks Carmarthen Bay on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Black Hall Cottage has sea views over Carmarthen Bay towards Tenby and Caldey Island and the National Trust Colby Estate Gardens nearby. 

Pelcomb Cross Farmhouse

The Pelcomb Cross Farmhouse is within walking distance of The Pelcomb Inn, a village pub serving hearty food and local ales. This rustic farmhouse is also near to Haverfordwest with its farmers market and sandy beaches. 

Carew Cottage, Carew 

Carew Cottage is a grade II listed stone terrace cottage in the village of Carew, and two doors down from the Carew Inn. Nearby are the ruins of the medieval Carew Castle, which also holds events throughout the year. Saundersfoot, Tenby, Manorbier and Freshwater East are within a short drive.

The Cranney 

The Fisherman’s Return is a 300-year old brick and flint free house in the centre of Winterton, serving up to five real ales, and freshly prepared seafood specials. Within walking distance of the pub is The Cranny, a double-round thatched cottage. 

Norfolk 

Norfolk is a county in the East of England and East Anglia, It is bordered by Lincolnshire and The Wash, the North Sea, Cambridgeshire to the west and Suffolk. The city of Norwich is the county's main culture centre, with other towns including and the seaside resort and Broads gateway town of Great Yarmouth. Norfolk enjoys over 90 miles of coastline and a landscape that gently rises with an abrupt fall down to the flat Fens area.

The Carpenters Shop in Fleggburgh was originally a petrol station and still retains the original pumps. It is a stroll to the Kings Arms Fleggburgh, one of East Norfolk’s most popular gastro pubs, with a 2AA rosettes restaurant. The Carpenter Shop is a 10-minute drive to the dog-friendly friendly beaches of Winterton-on-Sea and Caister. 


Grange Farm Barn 

Grange Farm Barn, a Grade II listed barn conversion in the Broadland village of Filby, is within walking distance of the village’s dogfriendly and CAMBRA listed King’s Head.
