HUGE VISITOR NUMBERS FOR KIDS DAY OUT AT MCEC IN RECORD-BREAKING YEAR FOR THE GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) hosted more than 80,000 visitors last Friday for Victoria’s 91st Good Friday Appeal, which raised a record-breaking total of $22,328,154 to support The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

MCEC was delighted to welcome this event we have hosted since 2014 back to the venue. This year we made up to 35,000 square metres of our space, including 18 exhibition bays, available to support the event. We want to thank the Good Friday Appeal for all of their support organising this event and making Kids Day Out possible.

With this year's tally of $22,328,154, we're thrilled that the Good Friday Appeal has reached its milestone of over $421M going directly to The Royal Children’s Hospital.

MCEC Chief Commercial Officer, Melissa Sweetland said:
“It was an incredible day for the Good Friday Appeal and amazing to see so many people back at our venue for this flagship event. This is the biggest single event we’ve hosted since the last Kids Day Out in 2019 with over 80,000 people through our doors.

“Every time we host this event we put our full support behind it with our Operations, Food and Beverage and Commercial teams all contributing. Walking around on the day you can see how much joy this event brings to the community, as well as the MCEC team, many of whom volunteer on the day.

“We love supporting the Good Friday Appeal and this year MCEC donated more than $1.7 million including waived venue hire, technology, resources, catering, and event support. We’re delighted that this has supported a record-breaking year for the Good Friday Appeal.”

Rebecca Cowan, Executive Director of the Good Friday Appeal said:
“For the first time in two years, we were thrilled that our annual Kids Day Out was able to make a comeback and saw thousands of families come together and enjoy the activities and entertainment that support the Appeal.

"The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre was once again an exceptional host. To everyone who participated, whether in your small local community, donated, or tuned into the telethon, we thank you. The total is truly overwhelming and that is thanks to everyone who has come together to support the kids.”
