The Portugese Grand Prix, The Algarve

The Algarve in southern Portugal has been chosen to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix for the first time at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao.

Additional events and venues were announced after the Grand Prixs in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada were cancelled this year due to the coronavirus.

It is hoped the event will project the Algarve brand worldwide and add lifeblood to tourism in the region.

In terms of direct revenue from the organization and the spectators of the event, it is expected that the Grand Prix will represent a value close to 40 million euros for the region.

Algarve Tourism is confident that the Formula 1 Grand Prix will help to mitigate the effects that the pandemic has had on this sector and will contribute to more positive results in the last quarter of the year.

The Algarve The Algarve is the southernmost region in Portugal framed by a 200km coastline.

Known for more than 300 days of sun per year, the region is home to award-winning beaches, authentic gastronomy and a range of outdoor activities from surfing to cycling, walking and bird watching.
