Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, Myanmar

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (MOHT) was formed on 24th September 1992 aiming to support Myanmar as an international tourist destination by creating domestic and international markets effectively.

MOHT has been cooperating with international organizations such as ASEAN, GMS, BIMSTEC, CLMV, ACMECS, and other tourism organizations in tourism development activities. To promote Myanmar Tourism, the Ministry is closely cooperating with the concerned ministries and private sectors including the Myanmar Tourism Federation and its 11 associations in participating and showcasing the tourism products in the international and regional tourism fairs and shows.

MOHT has launched its new website, www.tourism.gov.mm, and we portal-www.tourisminmyanmar.com.mm which will offer videos, news, photographs and interviews about Myanmar’s culture, traditions and tourist destinations. The new website aims to inform the world about Myanmar’s real situation, to attract more tourists to the country, and to share ideal tourist destinations, festivals, cultures and traditions of Myanmar in accordance with the Digital Marketing Strategy of the 21st Century.

Bagan, an ancient city located in the Mandalay region is one of the most visited places by tourists in the country. It is one of the richest archaeological sites in Asia. Bagan is famous for its historical monuments and houses around 2000 monuments from different periods and historical site in Myanmar.

Mandalay, the last capital of the Myanmar Kingdom, is located in Central Myanmar, 688 km north of Yangon. It is famous for its cultural heritage, traditional arts and crafts. It is also the commercial centre with rail, road, river and air links to all parts of the country.

Pyu Ancient Cities are the first World Heritage Site in Myanmar which comprised of three brick-walled and moated cities of Halin, Beikthano and Sri Ksetra. They represent the Pyu Kingdoms that were prosperous for over a thousand year between B.C. 200 and A.D. 900.
