The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) together with Tak province, Tak’s Chamber of Commerce and related public and private organisations recently staged the “Eat, Shop and Chill at Mae Sot” event from 8 to 10 June at Robinson Lifestyle Centre, Mae Sot, Tak.
The “Eat, Shop and Chill at Mae Sot” was held as part of the TAT’s Thailand Shopping and Dining Paradise 2018, which is taking place from 1 June – 31 August in Bangkok, Tak’s Mae Sot district, Buri Ram’s Mueang district, and Udon Thani’s Mueang district.
The opening ceremony of the “Eat, Shop and Chill at Mae Sot” was held on 8 June and was presided over by Tak Deputy Governor Mr. Chutidet Meechan and Mrs. Sujittra Jongchansittho, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, with Mr. TayZa Htut Hlaing Htway, Minister of Ethnic Affairs of Myanmar, and Mr. Khun Myo Tint, Minister of Pao Ethnics as the guests of honour from Myanmar
The “Eat, Shop and Chill at Mae Sot” event presented 50 booths comprising community products, shops, restaurants and travel services. Among those presented were Gem Centre of Asia, SA Products, beauty products from Mae-Kasa Mineral Water, fresh fruits from Prathom Petch Plantation, Luem Pua rice from Kow Sai Jai community enterprises and On Mars restaurant of Thai celebrity DJ Aoy.
The three-day event also featured performances from Thai artists, including ‘Most’ Witsarut Himmarat, Rose Quartz band and ‘Ritz’ Ruangrit Siripanich, as well as cultural performances, DIY (do-it-yourself) activities and CIY (cook-it-yourself) with Finny the Chef. In addition, visitors who purchased up to 300 Baht received a coupon for a chance to win tickets from Thai AirAsia, and souvenirs from TAT and Robinson department store.
Mr. Chutidet MeeChan, Tak Deputy Governor, said Mae Sot is a Special Economic Zone with active trading activities between Thailand and Myanmar and last year’s Thailand Shopping and Dining Paradise promotions in the city was well received by tourists and the locals. He said he expected the economy of Mae Sot during this year’s Green Season to be even more active than last year.
During this year’s Green Season, tourists visiting Mae Sot can expect to receive special offers throughout the three-month Thailand Shopping and Dining Paradise 2018 from 270 participating shops, restaurants, hotels, accommodation, car rental companies and travel agencies across the city, including Robinson Lifestyle Department Store, TK Garment Outlet, Hong Long Mini Mart, Har Yak Group (2559), and Mae Sot Boonrooj (Boon Roo TV) Rimmei Market.
Mrs. Sujittra Jongchansittho, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, said TAT expected that the “Eat, Shop and Chill at Mae Sot”, under the “Thailand Shopping and Dining Paradise 2018” campaign would attract tourists, stimulate the local economy and increase tourism revenue in Mae Sot district.
According to Mrs. Sujittra, the nationwide Thailand Shopping and Dining Paradise 2018 campaign is expected to benefit the circulation and distribution of income in both primary and secondary cities.
“The aim is to offer quality products to Thai shoppers and foreign tourists, especially those from countries in ASEAN, East Asia, South Asia and Oceania, with the concept of organising and specifying special moments to stimulate sales in different areas.”
