The Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) Division, Mahidol University International College (MUIC), and Destination Mekong, the execution unit endorsed by the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO), established a formal educational partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 25, 2018 at Meeting Room A302, Aditayathorn Building in the Salaya campus.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phitaya Charupoonphol, Dean of MUIC, together with Mr. Jens Thraenhart, Executive Director of MTCO, signed the MOU with the aim of fostering an educational collaboration between the two institutions in relation to a responsible and sustainable development of the tourism sector within the Mekong region.
Destination Mekong has been created to promote the Mekong region, comprising of Cambodia, People’s Republic of China (provinces of Guangxi and Yunnan), Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam as a single tourism destination to stimulate responsible and sustainable development and investment, and drive inclusive growth within the region. The creation of Destination Mekong is aligned with the mandate of the regional collaborative tourism framework of the six-member governments of the Greater Mekong Sub-region.
