Events to boost tourism in Queensland's regions

Regional events across the state will benefit from a $484,500 funding boost, attracting more visitors to Queensland and supporting growth in the local tourism economy.

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said 27 events would receive funding as part of the latest round of Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program (QDEP).

“Regional events play an important role in driving tourism and supporting local economies by providing travellers with another reason to visit our unique destinations,” she said.

“This latest round will support a mixture of events from food, music and cultural festivals to sporting and lifestyle events across nine regions.”

“Many of these events have grown to become huge drawcards for their region and are an integral part of their identity, celebrating our enviable lifestyle, idyllic destinations and unbeatable hospitality.”

“This round includes a number of newly funded events such as the Brisbane Marathon Festival, Shimano Enduro Tour Gold Coast (MTB), Mechanos and The Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival.”

“Event organisers can use the funding to assist with event marketing costs, strategic plan development, staff hire and event infrastructure.”

Since 2015 the Queensland Destination Events Program has invested more than $5.8 million in regional events throughout Queensland, with our It’s live in Queensland event’s calendar now worth $780 million to our state’s economy.

“Our investment in Queensland’s tourism industry will continue to grow via this funding program, increasing from $2 million to $3 million from 2018-19.”
