Magnetic Island local invites visitors

Local teenager Melia Hinks is the latest hero in a series of Queensland tourism promotional videos as she invites visitors to discover Magnetic Island.

Produced in partnership between Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and Townsville Enterprise, the 90 second video is a compelling local invitation sharing insights on how to explore one of Queensland’s gems – Magnetic Island – like a local.

TEQ Chief Executive Officer Leanne Coddington said the video was part of a series being progressively released to inspire travellers to ‘Find your perfect next’ in Queensland.

“Encountering local stories and understanding destinations from a local perspective adds an element of authenticity to a holiday, and travellers are increasing looking for those experiences,” Ms Coddington said.

“Melia’s unreserved passion for her home is demonstrated throughout the video, inspiring travellers to explore the beauty of Magnetic Island,” she said.

“Melia also shares an ‘insider’ tip on exploring the island from a different perspective.

“Having real locals tell their story, share their secrets and invite travellers to explore their part of the world is such a genuine, Queensland approach and is what makes this series so special.”

Townsville Enterprise Director – Tourism & Events, Bridget Woods, said the unpretentious look and feel of the video will captivate potential visitors seeking genuine experiences.

“Initiatives like this video are being harnessed as effective strategies to promote the Townsville North Queensland tourism industry, with invitations and referrals from locals resonating with holiday-makers,” said Ms Woods.

“Travellers these days seek authentic experiences and are relying on travel inspiration told through the eyes of everyday people to form their holiday itineraries.

“While in our region visitors can discover the raw beauty of the stunning Magnetic Island just like Melia Hinks, as well as experiencing additional natural assets of rainforest and outback all within a one-hour drive of Townsville.”

Melia’s local invitation video is being promoted together with a series of destination blogs targeted to families and empty nesters in Brisbane, South East Queensland, Sydney and Melbourne over the next fortnight in a campaign jointly funded by TEQ and Townsville Enterprise.
