MARRIAGE EQUALITY CELEBRATED ON NYE

A rainbow waterfall of red, yellow, green, blue, purple and silver fireworks will cascade from Sydney Harbour Bridge as part of this year’s New Year’s Eve (NYE) celebrations.

The dramatic technicolour display will confirm Sydney as the NYE capital of the world, and celebrate Australians saying ‘Yes’ to marriage equality.

The rainbow waterfall is a tribute to the Sydney 78ers, who marched for gay rights 40 years ago, and also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras.

The two NYE fireworks displays, at 9pm and midnight, will be made up of more than 100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects created from eight tonnes of fireworks, 30,000 shooting comets and 13,000 shells.

Find out more about the best fireworks viewing spots, parties, events and public transport on NYE.
