The 58th Gion Odori Dance Performance

1 Nov – 10 Nov 2015
Geiko and maiko from Gion Higashi, one of the Kagai districts in Kyoto, will perform all together on one stage. Their dance will decorate Kyoto City in beautiful autumn colours.

Kyokusui no Utage 3 Nov 2015

This is an elegant Heian-period poetry game that aristocrats in those days enjoyed playing. A special bird-form sake cup will be released on the stream in the precinct and participant have to improvise a poetry before the cup reaches to him/her.

Ohitaki Ritual Fire Ceremony 8 Nov 2015

More than 100,000 special wooden amulets gathered from all around Japan will be burnt together after a ceremony. This is one of the largest scale fire rituals of this kind in Japan.
