Quirky Unknowns of Moab

Try 'em!

Overnight ATV tour with Adrift Adventures.

The trip includes the camping gear, meals and ATV rental with ATV supplies. Tours are available March through November and limited to 8 guests. Get going at 9 AM the first morning and return 4 PM the following day. The trip takes place in the La Sal Mountains, a range seen from downtown Moab only 20-30 minutes away.

Fun with Ropes.

Canyoneering is a region specific tour opportunity for exploring the secret crags and crevices of canyon country in southeastern Utah. No skill is required for this guided Moab trip. The guide ties knots and coordinates the ropes. Participants must carry a share of the equipment and not have a fear of heights. Other harness sports can be enjoyed with the Moab Adventure Park, a high and low ropes course in downtown Moab or with Raven's Rim ziplines.

Camp in a teepee.

Moab Under Canvas provides cots, sleeping bags, pillows and towels for as many as four people sharing one tee. The restrooms and showers are close by, and a great camping option when all you need to supply is your toothbrush.

Fiery Furnace Tours. The ranger led to a hike in Arches National Par into Fiery Furnace requires reservations made online using Recreation.gov. Those trips book 4- 6 months in advance. However, never fear, there are several local businesses that also provide this strenuous hike over irregular surfaces, gaps, and narrow spots. So if you are interested, book now for 2016 Ranger assisted trips or request a list of Fiery Furnace alternatives from info@moabutah.info.

Night Time.

A useful page awaits visitors, http://discovermoab.com/sunshine.htm, it helps figure out the phase of the moon for hiking by the full moon or enlisting Red Rock Astronomy for a telescope view of the darker moonless night skies. As Arches National Park has grown in popularity, knowing the hours of sunrise and sunset helps to schedule visits to the park. To escape the congestion of 10 AM – 4 PM when parking becomes as an effort at the iconic spots in the park. And there is a terrific list of live music to be found in the free publication, Moab Happenings found in the office of campgrounds, lobbies of hotels, foyers of shops or online via MoabHappenings.com.

Dinosaurs.

Tag-A-Long Expeditions, Dan Mick have dinosaur-specific driving tours for a local lead opportunity to learn more about the surrounding dinosaur attractions in the backcountry around Moab. Plus, Moab Giants opened in September with a Grand Opening planned for March 1, 2016.This museum is the first of this kind in the world; it highlights dinosaur tracks. It has life-size dinosaur statues along a trail, interactive museum, Paleo Aquarium, 3-D short film, restaurant and gift shop.
