Urban beach to Rock Away the summer at Perth Cultural Centre

A 1950s urban beach has been installed in the heart of Perth City, as part of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority's latest installation, 'Rock Away Beach'.

More than 45 tonnes of sand have been brought into Perth Cultural Centre to create two beaches – a shaded beach for children, and a relaxing adult's beach in the James Street amphitheatre.

Throughout the beach season, urban beach goers will be entertained in the evenings with music and movies, while Bar Pop will turn 'Rock Away Beach' into a rocking beach bar.

Escape those balmy summer nights on Wednesdays and Sundays and get along to our Elvis - Rock Away Beach summer screenings. You won't want to miss these classics:
  • Sunday 4 January, 7:30pm: Blue Hawaii (1961)
  • Sunday 11 January, 7:30pm: Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962)
  • Sunday 18 January, 7:30pm: Viva Las Vegas (1964)
Entry to the urban oasis is free, and is open to the public now through to February 1, 2015.
