SYDNEY SURF FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED FOR JANUARY

Film fans and surfers will merge early next year at the first-ever O’Neill Sydney Surf Film Festival.

NSW Government will be supporting the O’Neill Sydney Surf Film Festival (SSFF), through Destination NSW. The two week Festival will be held in Sydney’s two surfing epicentres, Manly Beach and Bondi Beach, and will take place from January 20, 2015.

NSW Premier and Member for Manly Mike Baird said the NSW Government was pleased to partner with the Sydney Surf Film Festival in its inaugural year.

“We have a vibrant surf culture in NSW and filmmaking has always been an important part of that culture. This festival will showcase the best the surf film genre has to offer,” Mr Baird said.

“This event will no doubt add to the anticipation and excitement in the lead up to the Australian Open of Surfing, which is proudly supported by the NSW Government and will be held at Manly Beach,” he said.

Festival Event Director Nick Stevenson said: “Filmmaking has been at the heart of the surf industry since its inception, with classic films such as Bruce Brown’s ‘The Endless Summer’ to Kai Neville’s ‘Dear Suburbia’. Surf films shape and influence generations of surfers, and part of the vision for establishing the festival was to share a wide and diverse line up of Australian and international films with the public of Sydney.”

After weeks of deliberation, the official selection of films for 2015 was decided by the festival’s screening panel of surf industry personalities including Joel Coleman, Stuart Nettle and Paul Witzig. A line up of satellite events, parties and photographic exhibitions are also included in the festival program, which can be found with ticket information and other details at ssff.com.au.
