BRING IN THE NEW YEAR BY THE SYDNEY HARBOUR

Sydney’s Harbour will be the place to be this New Year’s Eve. Sydney’s world-renowned fireworks will bring in the New Year in style.

Hotspots to take in all the action include Darling Harbour, Barangaroo and, of course, anywhere around the harbour with a view of the Bridge.

The changing footprint of Darling Harbour, and ongoing development of the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), has reduced the viewing audience capacity at Cockle Bay, so Darling Harbour precinct event organiser Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) has opened up a second fireworks site at Tumbalong Park to distribute crowds more evenly. Alongside the two major displays traditionally held at 9pm and midnight, there will be smoke and laser shows at both the Cockle Bay and Tumbalong Park firing sites each hour from 8pm until midnight, with smaller fireworks displays every half-hour.

Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority advised visitors to Darling Harbour to arrive early on New Year’s Eve and choose which site they want to attend, as movement around the precinct will be restricted and seating will be limited on the night.

Meanwhile, around the Harbour, the party kicks off at 6pm with air displays by flying ace Matt Hall. Highlights will also include the 9pm family fireworks, a mini fireworks display at 10.40pm, a Harbour of Light parade and, of course, the midnight fireworks display. The Sydney Harbour Bridge will also be lit up with tweets from Sydneysiders and visitors about how the harbour city will inspire them in 2015. In the lead up to the midnight fireworks, audiences gathered around Sydney Harbour – along with those watching at home – are encouraged to use the hashtag #SydNYE to tweet New Year messages that tie into this year’s theme, Inspire. The tweets will appear live on the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylons throughout the night, and will be broadcast around Australia and the world in coverage of the first major city to ring in the New Year. And don’t forget to also tweet #ilovesydney.

Finally, about 4000 people will celebrate New Year’s Eve at Sydney's newest harbour park, Barangaroo Point. The picnic style event has sold out.
