Skybury Farmgate to Open in May

Skybury's Australian Coffee Centre will be transformed into the ultimate farmgate experience as owners Ian and Marion MacLaughlin look to double coffee production over the next five years and build on their strong reputation for producing high quality tropical fruit.

Labelled “Skybury Farmgate”, Mr MacLaughlin said the transformation was part of their long-term vision to further expand Skybury's coffee footprint, not only in Australia but internationally.

Skybury is Australia's oldest producing coffee plantation. The family owned company has been producing Arabica coffee and tropical fruits from the 300 acre plantation near Mareeba for 27 years.

“Skybury is Australia's largest exporter of home-grown coffee, which is an achievement we are incredibly proud of,” Mr MacLaughlin said. “Our coffee is enjoyed all around the world, from the street cafes of Paris, Berlin, London, Singapore,Tokyo and Madrid, to trendy coffee shops in Cairns and Port Douglas, as well as the Cairns Convention Centre and Cairns Airport.

“Over the next five years, as we increase our coffee production, we are committed to growing our local and international markets and we will continue to build on our existing partnerships with key outlets to collectively raise the profile of high quality fresh Australian produce.”

Mr MacLaughlin believed there were real synergies across the Skybury brand with the plantation's tropical fruits also distributed across Australia through major supermarkets and wholesale distributors.

Skybury's restaurant and tours, will cease to operate from May 1, 2014. Skybury Farmgate will be situated within the foyer of the Centre, while renovation and building works for a dedicated site are underway.

Skybury Farmgate will be open to the public from 9am to 4pm weekdays (excluding public holidays) and will sell fresh produce direct from the farm as well as the Skybury Coffee range. Takeaway coffee will also be available.

Keep a look out for Skybury's upgraded website featuring a great e-commerce platform for coffee sales and product information. It will be business as usual for all online, mail order and wholesale coffee sales.
